I am posting this because, in the past few weeks, I have been twice asked when I was planning to run Waypoint again. This strikes me as a good reason to seriously consider the possibility...

I'd basically put the game on hold because of work and study committments which are now no longer in place. They've not been in place for a while, to be honest, but I had other projects to work on instead (Victoriana being one of them, various writing projects being other ones...). Now, I am pondering just plunging ahead and booking a site and setting a date and all that malarky.

Site is likely to be the Gladstone scout centre initially because that is a great site with a lot of potential which we have used before.

There will be changes, however.

1) Rules. I've said this before but am repeating it here, the rules will be rewritten completely. Mainly to simplify them. Am pondering something similar to the system that worked for Gloriana but that is still open to negotiation.

2) Setting. I've pondered the idea of simply picking up where we left off, with the timeline pretty much frozen at the end of the last event and allowing players to play their new characters if they wanted to. In fact, my first event idea was to be an Imperial Banquet hosted by the new Emperor to celebrate the first anniversary of the end of the war with all the players who had ever played being invited to attend as a reward for their involvement. New players could be worked in somehow if needed. However, while I may still run that particular event, I think it will now be a one off and not run as the initial event of the reboot. Now I am thinking of moving the timeline forward a bit. This would mean:
 - Completely new characters for everyone and every one starting at the same level, thereby avoiding cliques of 'oldies' and 'newbies'.
 - Updated history with the chance to explore the logical progression of the different changes that the players have brought about. These include:
                   - The Dagdan Commonwealth making the Dagdans a massive political force (albeit a loosely allied one)
                   - The existence of Gate engines (how many people noticed that the anti-Quain Dyr weapon the Cybel invented caused someone to teleport randomly when it was fired at a non Quain Dyr? Make it bigger, aim it at a ship, add a navigational device to control it...)
                   - Avar uniting under a single, autocratic ruler who is relatively benign and therefore, like the Dagdans, entering the galactic stage as a political entity
                    - The Althari computer being saner and the gate network being better controlled.

I think we can have a lot of fun with these changes to the setting and possibly many more I haven't considered yet...

Anyway, I shall update people as and when things are fixed. In the meantime, feel free to throw ideas at me in comments, ask questions, and so on...
