Pirates, Swashbucklers and Ghosts...
Aug. 29th, 2011 05:18 pmThis is an announcement I have been sitting on for a while now, for various reasons which are mostly linked to the possibility that things could have gone pear shaped at any point. Some of this news is fairly fresh (a few months) while some of it has been maturing for a number of years. Some of you out there who regularly read these ramblings know some of this news already, some of you might even know (or have guessed) at all of it. I do apologise if any of you feel that you have been kept in the dark about any of this, that was not the intention.
So, with the preamble out of the way, onto the announcement. Well, announcement one of two... September 19th, 2011 is (as I am sure you are all aware) International Talk Like a Pirate Day and on this day there is an anthology of short stories with a Pirate Theme being released by Pulp Empire (http://pulpempire.com/) called 'Pirates and Swashbucklers'. If one were to browse through the table of contents of this book, one might find a story called 'Gods of the Sea' which was written by a D.A Lascelles. This is a story loosely based in the Arcroc setting (with permission from Dave Hawkins) and covers the story of how Rachel Drake first meets Everyn Crowe (with added pirates thrown in for good measure. On this blog - http://www.pensandswords.com/2011/08/29/pirates-and-swashbucklers-interview-with-d-a/ - you will find an interview with me done by the blog's author (Kameron M Franklin), who is also one of the writers involved in this project and here is a copy of the cover for those who like a bit of a picture with thier morning reading:( Read more... )Should you wish to acquire a copy,I shall be posting more about how you may purchase this anthology closer to the release date.
Announcement 2 is related to the above and involves another publishing event. Several years ago, I got together with a group of romance writers to put together an anthology of novella length stories which had a paranormal theme and involved 'women of non-standard size'. In other words, women who were not super model thin. I sort of started out organising this thing - which mostly involved sending out e-mails and telling people about deadlines and arranging crit buddies and the like - and was helped a great deal with this by the wonderful Judy Bagshaw. We each (Me, Judy, Julie Schriver and J.D Thompson) wrote a story, put them all through several rounds of editing and Judy (with her experience of having done this sort of thing before) packaged it all up to send to publishers. Along the way we picked up Skyla Dawn Cameron (who talks about this anthology here: http://www.skyladawncameron.com/blog/abouthaunted).
Trouble was that the recession was starting to bite at publishing at the time we were looking and we got a rejection or two and rejected another contract ourselves due to some disagreements with the clauses and what rights were being sold and why. We'd pretty much given up at finding a home for this anthology. Then, earlier this year Skyla put on her devil outfit (it's really sexy, ask her to model it for you sometime :) ) and offered us a contract with the publisher she works for - Mundania Press (http://www.mundania.com/). So now Shades of Love will be released in two formats in 2012. Between January and May 2012 a series of ebooks will be released, one a month, starting with Judy Bagshaw's 'Opposite Attraction' and ending with Skyla's 'Haunted'. My novella 'Transitions', a love story involving Romans, ghosts and Goths (the modern kind, not the Germanic tribe) - will be put out in ebook format sometime between these two. Then, in June 2012 there will be a paperback release of the anthology including all the stories with an additional bonus story that has been written by all the contributors working together. I am expecting to get the edits back from my novella sometime over the next few months. So, there you have it. I will be updating this blog with more news as and when I get it.
