Been throwing job applications out like some form of factory today. Most of them have been thrown at the police force.
Yes, you heard right. The police force.
You see, due to recent expansions the police are recruiting for their forensic sciecne service both in house and at their contracting company. Looking at some of the job descriptions I realised I was eligable for them so I decided to apply.
The one at the contractor is going to be difficult because they are based at a site near the airport and that will be a lot of travelling for little old me on a daily basis. Still will be worth it for some regular pay.
The others are all based in the City centre and so are very easy to get to. Two of them (Fingerprint and DNA officer and Evidence Technician) mention the evil words '+shift allowance' in the salary description which hints at antisocial hours but all seem to involve things I have done before in various labs (same techniques, just different application). One of them (the evidence technician) has another ominous hint when it mentions 'experience of unsavoury sights' i.e. you will end up on site at murder scenes and/or get sent grisly things. Good job I have a reasonably strong stomach. The third, the one I am most interested in, does not involve any lab work at all and is a 'Forensic Intelligence Research Officer' which sounds like you get to be Chloe from 24 but is probably a lot more boring in real life. Skills required seem to be around computer use, statistics and trend spotting/analysis. So, just the sort of skills you need to be a research scientist, then...
Another few apps have gone to some local companies looking for lab techs of various sorts.
Hoping to get something to at least alleviate the money drought that always hits in summer when all the supply work dries up.
I'll let you all know how things go...
