Essays....
Apr. 6th, 2009 02:17 pmStill writing essays... or at least reading through OfSted reports in preparation for writing an essay. One day someone will teach OfSted to write concisely. However, it won't be me because I need to learn it first (Hah! Got that in before Sarah did... :) ).
My experiment to leave Eddie alone with my research papers, a pen and a pad of paper in the hope that he would write something interesting and insightful has so far failed. He has yet to even move from his comfy space on the settee never mind construct any elegant, academic arguments for how research informs planning in ICT. Still, I suppose this is typical of many academics - several hours apparently asleep while they contemplate the problem, followed by a sudden surge in frenzied activity as they quickly complete the essay - so I am holding out hope that there will be movement soon. Otherwise I will have to write the damn thing myself and that means continuing to plough through OfSted's witterings. My theory that if a thousand monkeys can produce the works of Shakespeare then one dog should be able to produce one essay on education theory hangs on the success of this experiment...
In other news, had a good weekend of Birthday goodness. Saturday we (finally) left the house to go to the goth ball and had fun dancing to goth songs and seeing some people we rarely see any more (because we rarely go out). Yesterday we had a wonderful dinner with Songofnewday at the Country Girl. Eddie came with us and enjoyed my spare sausage. Most of the rest of the weekend was spent cleaning and relaxing. In terms of 'haul' I got mostly money this time round but Sarah got me a remote control for my camera so I can trigger the shutter when I am in shot to therefore save all that faff setting up the timer. She also got me a bar of chocolate (nom) and a book of academic essays on Neil Gaiman's Sandman. Not read much of this yet (just the first essay and some of the second) but it looks interesting. The first essay was more or less a potted history of comics including a thesis about why British writers are different to American ones (its due to what they were exposed to as children... Americans were exposed to superhero comics and therefore produce 'more of the same', in Britain superhero comics were rarer and so writers were exposed to more variety). The second is an analysis of Midsummers Night Dream.
I am now pondering what to purchase with (currently) £50 of birthday money... May wait until Friday when we plan to go shopping in town...
