Things and stuff
Jul. 2nd, 2007 08:44 amBack at work... :( But only 2 and a bit weeks left before holiday! :) and no money :( I need to consider signing on to make sure I don't lose NI credits over the break again.
Weekend was fun. Achieved acquiring a laptop - a second hand one from Masati which is being delivered at the weekend. Also achieved lots of other things like dog walking, drinking, watching Sharpe's Challenge, celebrating Tony_lee's birthday and doing that evil thing called house cleaning.
Doctor Who was a mixed bag from what I can see... I agree with Tony and madwelshwizard on the overall naffness and sarah's comments on the overuse of flange. I think RTD wrote himself into a corner with the previous episode and couldn't think of a way to get out of it without overuse of flange. I also think the pacing was wrong over the whole three episoide arc. Episode one was brilliant and ended well but the cliffhanger was resolved too quickly and easily at the start of the next episode. Episode two, as already said, maybe overstretched the cliffhanger a bit so that there was no satisfying way out of it. If RTD had turned that cliffhanger over to another writer in a round robin sort of way then they may have saved it. I had several alternatives in mind as I was watching it...
On the other hand there were some good bits. I liked the 'fake assasination plan' as I was thinking as it was being discussed 'thats a really naff and stupid plan' and was pleased when Martha also pointed this out. Lost amulet of Zlarg plot basically :) I also liked the betraying professor as she reminded me of someone I know... I was also cheesily amused at the ending... and the Flash Gordon tribute
So, overall.... some bits I liked and it may have been a reasonably good episode if some major flaws had been excised. However, too many expectations and not enough delivery...
