Apr. 6th, 2007 05:58 pmSo, here we are in Barcelona... We woke late today and had a leisurly breakfast before trying to find the Gothic Quarter. Our expedition set out in good spirits, fully intending to wander around windy streets for hours looking at quaint things and maybe enjoying lunch in a nice cafe.
Instead we somehow managed to end up caught in a stream of traffic moving down la Rambla, past endless living statues, until we came to the statue commemorating Columbus´s discovery of America. Referral of the map at this point ascertained that we were no where near the Gothic quarter (having somehow missed it by only a few feet) but that we were conveniently close to Mont Juic which was another place we really wanted to see.
So, we spent time wandering around the parks in there, searching for the castle which houses the Military museum. The castle which, unlike most other castles in the world (which sit on hilltops and scream ´here I am!!!´), seems to have perfected the art of camoflague. When we eventually found it, though, it was a good few hours of wandering, looking at cool weapons and stuff followed by a nice lunch in a cafe.
We then tried to visit some museums but, when we had eventually translated the Byzantine logic of the opening hours, realised that most of them had closed for the day by the time we´d got there. So, we went back to the hotel (on the metro which was cool) and spent some time asleep before coming here to read mails etc.
Tomorrow we intend to try again to reach the Gothic Quarter...
