I cried like a girl (well, almost...)
Feb. 3rd, 2006 09:54 amI watched last Saturday's 'Sea of Souls' last night (the wonders of Replay) and it really affected me badly. For some reason it made me really emotional. I suspect it was because the story involved the ghost of a dog (I like dogs... and stories about dead animals upset me) but it was also so well told that it just hit me below the belt. I suspect it was the quite liberal use of cliche early on (typical haunted house schticks) which set up a nice little red herring. In fact, it seems that red herrings have been used quite a lot in this series - using the watcher's prior assumptions against them in a clever manner. The one with the precognitive images, for example, which completely misled in a very clever way - the visions are building up a case for one thing and the characters only spot the truth almost too late - was very well done in this way. However, none of them so far have managed to hit a major emotional nerve with me. Last night it did.
So kudos to the writer for that excellent piece of work.
Alone last night as sarah is away again. So I had curry and vegged a lot. Also sorted out some things that I have been putting of for a while due to other committments. So, credit card bill ready to post, booking for waypoint site in March done (need to do the May one soon as well) with the deposit paid and a few other little jobs sorted. Also spent some time playing with publisher and word to try to design some leaflets for Waypoint. Finally managed (after much faffing with margins and loud intonation of the sacred cursing language) to line up the thing properly so that the picture and information on the front of the leaflet is lined up properly with the text and abbreviated booking form on the back. The idea (under advice from Matt P on numerous pagga discussions about LRP advertising) is that you make it easy for the players to book. This means you don't just give them a leaflet - leaflets get stuffed in pockets and forgotten or they look at it and think 'I may book for that, one day, when I can be arsed' - you also give them the means to book then and there. All they have to do is tick a box, fill in some details and send the leaflet back to you.
It may work. We'll just have to wait and see.
On a related note, anyone out there willing to take possession of a number of leaflets and distribute them at their own games or games they go to? Recipricol agreement - I'll do the same for your stuff if you get me the materials.
