Epic Trek

Today was a long and epic trek across the hills. Not the usual Boxing day affair of get boat to first stop, get off boat and walk the seven or so miles back because that had to be cancelled due to the boats not running. This was a more aimless affair which started out as a vague plan of 'let's head to Lanty's tarn and see where we go from there' and degenerated into an even more aimless plan. We did go quite high into the hills, though not quite to the top because we judged it to be slightly too dangerous due to winds and mud, then walked along a valley because 'we saw an interesting man made structure at the end of it and wanted a closer look'.

Interesting thing turned out to be a strange mine/quarry area with some grey slate houses. The internet claims there is a Youth Hostel there but we didn't get close enough to find out more (the river was pretty much a barrier we could not cross at that point).

Along the way there were fun discussions about Star Trek and alternate universes. As every normal, every day couple will naturally talk about on an average, normal day.

Afternoon was more chilled with a swim/sauna and a stolen picnic lunch. Tomorrow is set to be meeting with some friends before heading off to South Shields.

It has been a fun Christmas, despite the weather putting a very cold and wet dampner on day one. I am so totally pleased by my new cufflinks and operation 'secret exchange of jewellry with shady Americans in Leeds' was an amazing success. The shady* American did a good job.

Sometime this coming week or so, I intend to post on here a list of the names I have stolen from friends and used in writing... I want to see if any of you can spot who is who... I'll be surprised if you can guess some of them.

*I call him shady because he is taller than me and therefore blocks out the sun...
